There are many famous pirates and privateers and even more lesser known pirates and privateers. To share all my information on just one pirate would take a whole web site. Therefore, I will try to share with you some key information I have learned about pirates & treasure, including buried pirate treasure and sunken pirate treasure. Also, I will share some “Behind the Scenes” information regarding pirate treasures on some of the TV shows which I have been on. First I will start with Captain Kidd, the story of his piracy career is fascinating. There is a lot of information about his story and several “treasure maps” which are supposed to show the location of his buried treasure. However, for the episode I did with Josh Gates on Expedition Unknown about Captain Kidd, one place we went to was Mona Island. I would recommend watching the episode and here is some exciting and interesting “Behind the Scenes” Info. When I went to Mona Island, one of the park rangers met with me privately to show some of the treasure which they, the park rangers, have been finding on the island. The entire island is riddled with caves and tunnels and is a great place to secret any treasure.
There are many locations around the Louisiana bayou that would be great hiding places for some of Jean Lafitte’s treasure. There are probably many small caches of treasure as opposed to one large hiding spot of treasure. On the TV episode I did about Jean Lafitte I share a lot of information. Also, the pirate Jose Gaspar might be nothing more than just a legend but there were many lesser known pirates in that area of Florida’s Gulf coast which probably accounts for the many findings of smaller caches of buried treasure and even the material we found on another episode I did with Josh on Expedition Unknown about the pirate Jose Gaspar or as he is also known - Gasparilla.
Finally, the pirates Blackbeard, Oliver Levassuer, and Amaro Prago. Of course almost everyone knows about Blackbeard and one of my friends, Mike Daniels, who was one of the primary people responsible for finding Blackbeard’s ship Queen Anne’s Revenge, was also on the episode we did about Blackbeard with William Shatner for The History Channel. There are many places where Blackbeard might have hidden buried treasure, however pirates mostly spent their treasure as soon as they got it. Yet, one pirate Oliver Levassure, also known as La Buse, is credited with leaving a cryptic code which if someone can decipher it, should lead to his buried treasure. Lastly, the privateer Amaro Prago is also believed to have buried a large sum of treasure and his story is one of the more interesting but lesser known stories. I recommend looking into the life and legendary treasure of Amaro Prago and I have a lot of information to share about this pirate so please check back for the update about Amaro Prago and his treasure.
